About Special Operations Joint Task Force – Afghanistan (SOJTF-A)

Special Operations Joint Task Force – Afghanistan (SOJTF-A) was the command responsible for planning, synchronizing, and executing all special operations across Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and its successor missions. Operating under US Forces – Afghanistan (USFOR-A) and NATO's Resolute Support Mission, SOJTF-A commanded Army Special Forces (Green Berets), Rangers, Navy SEALs, Air Force Special Tactics, and coalition special operations forces across all of Afghanistan's provinces. At its peak, SOJTF-A oversaw thousands of special operations personnel conducting Village Stability Operations (VSO), direct action raids, foreign internal defense with Afghan National Security Forces, and counterterrorism operations against al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and ISIS-K. The SOJTF-A patch is one of the most recognizable and meaningful pieces of OEF insignia, worn by veterans of America's longest war.
